Part 2: How can SEO help Social Media?
It’s no secret that I’m a big social media nerd. I spend most of my day talking about ‘influence’. But there’s something I had previously always overlooked before joining the guys here.
Search.
And just how powerful search is. When I’m doing a social media audit or continual social media monitoring, I’m trying to understand what is driving and influencing people to be drawn to more conversations across more online communities. I’m trying to understand the context in which online communities thrive so that I can plan then execute social media strategies effectively.
There’s a dozen social media tools (paid, free and custom) I use to monitor this stuff, but there’s one significant piece of data I’m certain most social media storm troopers over look – keyword analysis. I sure know I did. Think about it: Imagine having the lists and volumes of accurate data that people are putting into Google to find more stuff. This data are the resources telling you exactly WHAT PEOPLE WANT. More importantly, WHAT PEOPLE WANT OVER TIME.
This is where I believe having a strong SEO strategy will be crucial to the success of your social media strategies. Because, as I highlighted in my Social Media Club Sydney presentation is provides another level of context. They both will benefit from one another over time.
All you need to remember? Keyword analysis can be the sort of data you can use to determine what your audience/market/community really want, allowing you to plan effective social media strategies.
