A great article in the NY Times mentions some useful tips on how Google AdWords can offer local businesses the opportunity to expand their reach past their local suburb or town. While it mentions some good tips for getting started with AdWords, there are also some pitfalls that every small business should be aware of when starting an AdWords campaign.
NY Times AdWords Tip 1: Set a budget, a daily or monthly amount you’re willing to spend.
This is definitely a crucial stumbling block for a number of small business owners as they are unsure of what returns they will be able to generate from AdWords. I certainly recommend implementing a scaled approach for small businesseses – start small – check results – then expand.

Interested to see that Google is continuing to gain market share globally with 67.5% in July, up from the previous high of 67.1% in June (commScore). What is really impressive is that the growth is not off a small base, and growing market share is never easy when a company is so dominant.
