50,000+ Websites Install the New Facebook “Like” Plug-in within a week!

Last night, in the US, Facebook announced that over 50,000 websites have already integrated Facebook’s new social plugin in the first week alone. The new plugins were announced at the recent F8 conference in San Francisco and is a core component of the Facebook’s new Open Graph initiative (which is set to change the way we share and communicate on the web).

It’s a significant milestone that 50,000 websites have already added the “Like” button and other social plugins. The protocol and API creates a more personalised web browsing experience for the user, all through Facebook. The social plugins enable users to interact with other websites (for example, “liking” them) without even logging on to the Facebook website. Some website owners are already seeing the benefits, in the form of increased social buzz, following and interaction, delivered from these new services.
None of the plugins released so far are related to the new (and controversial) “Instant Personalisation” service. This plugin has ruffled a few “privacy” feathers and even sparked attention from the US government, especially because many people are still confused about the differences between the personalisation service and the social plugins.
